Old Photo Weekend

This weekend's photo is of my dad's mother and older three brothers - taken before dad was born in 1928. The infamous Uncle Owen is the youngest in this photo.

Yesterday someone must've hung a sign on me that said "delay this woman". When I got to the bank to do one simple little transaction, the woman in front of me had several complicated transactions going. She had a thick Asian accent and the one teller on duty (this is a low-traffic bank) had difficulty understanding her. There seemed to be an infinite number of "one more thing"s with this woman. My transaction was so quick that I was out fast enough to have her interfere with me trying to drive outta there!

Then when I went to Dunkin' Donuts to get a coffee and a donut. There were three cars in the small parking lot messing up those trying to get to the drive-thru window or to park. It appeared that they were traveling together and didn't want to get more than five feet from each other.

Then when I got to the grocery store, there were more people trying to keep me from getting in and parking. And I wasn't even trying to get a good spot ... just to get in and park!

How Do People Find Me?

Inspired by Fred's list, I decided to look up (via my Sitemeter connection) to see how some people find me. Here it is:

1. DUBYA SPEAKS
2. WHAT IS POOR TOY
3. how do you react to a rude employee
4. schwartz chocolates
5. "oh happy birthday" "misery" (#1 on this one)
6. bald cardinal
7. babou once in my life
8. Kanab "Everyone is Welcome" (#1 here, too)
9. Agnes Harrisburg 1972 flood pictures
10. "working at barneys"
11. beebopareebop rhubarb pie lyrics

A couple show up because of what someone else wrote in their comments to my posts, but some (what is poor toy) just baffle me.

Beep Beep

A friend sent an email to Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz. Since I had other things to do, I decided to go ahead and take the quiz. And so . . .

I'm a Chevrolet Corvette!

"You're a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. You're all about winning the race and getting the job done. While you have a practical everyday side, you get wild when anyone pushes your pedal. You hate to lose, but you hardly ever do."

What kind are you? Com'on, you KNOW you want to know! (Officially, I'm really about as far from being a Corvette as possible.)

Old Photo Weekend

Sorry that I'm late in posting this weekend's photo. We got up late this morning (and very grumpyly ... Chatham was insistent that we get up and feed him ...) and then I ran some errands that took longer than expected. Of course.

So here I am as a one year old. Now I'm the mother of a kid with a learner's permit. Took Goa'uld out for a bit of parking-lot-driving. It's a whole lot harder now to find a parking lot big and empty enough to do that in, ya know? Now the ol' Pennsylvania Blue Laws are looking a whole lot more pratical ...

My Babies are Sixteen

Sixteen years ago today I gave birth to twelve and a half pounds of babies (via c-section; Bookworm stuck her foot out first).

I can't believe that they're old enough to drive . . . where did the time go?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little side note here: Chatham posted a while back about a good samaritian who saved a kitten who had been hit and left on the road. Other bloggers helped with the vet bills. Now Millie the Kitty needs a permanent home because Malcolm had already arranged to move far, far away and cannot take her. They live in Connecticut. If you know of someone who can give her a home, go on over and let them know.
My Babies are BACK!!
My Girls had a great time in Mexico. Hopefully they'll blog soonest about it. Bookworm told us a good many little stories (Bimbo bread is everywhere there), while Goa'uld wanted to immediately watch the season opener for Stargate (which we recorded last Friday night, and was SG-1, SG-Atlantis, plus a "real science" of SG show).
Then they were anxious to see Pirates of the Caribbean, so we did. And strangely enough (or naturally) one of the girls that also came back from Mexico was there with her family. Seems that she also told her folks that they couldn't see it until she was back. (Four of the group are in our immediate area, the rest were an hour or more drive to the north.)
Gotta go for now.
Old Photo Sunday
I've got quite a list of things to do today, so I better get on it. The Girls fly into Baltimore late tonight and will stay there overnight. I'll drive down Sunday morning to get their luggage, the limo driver will bring everyone up to Harrisburg.
This weekend's photo is of brother Nivek Army Ranger Pez, me and Actonbell at the Grand Canyon. (The Canyon is really washed out in the old photo, so I did a crude and quick Photoshop adjustment to bring it out a tad. That's why the part behind the chainlinks looks so different. Well, I said I had lots to do today!)
My New Poptart Boyfriend
Before the concert, the Poptart people (they're sponsoring the tour) had a group trying to draw people in for karoke. No one was volunteering. Nod and I were in line for tour t-shirts nearby and the song "Celebration" came on.
This song was the theme song for the Dance Marathon that I participated in at Penn State way back when. I heard that song over and over and over and I know it pretty well. Anyway, I was feeling the beat and dancing a bit in line, and they saw me. What the heck? So I went over and took the microphone and boogied. It was funny ... these young people had to watch the screen with the words, but I didn't, so their backs were to the crowd and I was facing the crowd. For the whole, long song. When it was over, the lead guy hugged me and thanked me for being a good sport.
After the concert, these same people were handing out samples of the new Poptarts (meant to be eaten frozen/cold). I saw this same (btw, good looking young) guy. He had a bullhorn and was trying to get people to say how they liked this new product out loud. He spotted me and ... thru the bullhorn ... says "IT'S MY GIRLFRIEND!" then gave me the bullhorn. So naturally I said "IT'S YUMMY!". He hugged me again and said thanks.
Then I introduced him to my husband. Boyfriend said "oops, sorry!" and Don laughed and said, "no, it was great, I got it on video!" And then Boyfriend hugged Don.
American Idol
Just got back from the American Idols LIVE! concert in Hershey ... boy, my ears are ringing from the noise! Good thing the woman next to me had earplugs to give me. I kept them in for most of the show - I could hear the singing, but the shrill shrieks of the little girls behind me didn't pierce quite as badly.
It was a good concert. The crowd was literally made up of babies through grandparents. All the Idols can sing well, but especially some nice pieces were when Lisa and Paris sang together and Elliot and Chris did one together. Fun, but weird, was Kellie and Bucky's duet; they did "You're the One That I Want" from Grease ... Countrified.
(Katharine McPhee wasn't there, she's missing dates due to laryngitis.)
Anyway, it's after midnight. I'm pooped from dancing, clapping and screaming. (Remind me to tell you about my new PopTart Boyfriend. Nod has it on tape.)
G'nite all!
And a program note: I'm Sar's Guest today! (July 13)
Day Trip
Our trip to New Hope was just okay. Some businesses were still not open due to the flooding of the Delaware River. The restaurant that we had lunch at was open for its second day since the flood. And not all of the restaurant was useable yet. Oddly enough, the canal (about two blocks from the River) was nearly dry.
Just before we got into New Hope, we saw this:
Then I remembered that there had been a public art project with fiberglass mules, similar to the CowParade. This was "Miles of Mules" was inspired by the canals along the Delaware River. (Remember the song Erie Canal?)
This mule is on the main drag of New Hope - originally it had a brass pole thru its back - its title is Merry Go Mule. (I think it's at the same location as shown here, at the bottom of the page.) I took this photo, Nod hasn't downloaded his photos yet. The three or four that we saw were all in this same pose - it wasn't until I saw the website that I realized that there were three poses (just like the Cows). And the ones that we saw weren't that interesting, but once I looked at the others online, I can see that there were better ones. However, the Cows as a whole are a more interesting "canvas" to work with.
Old Photo Weekend
We've kind of decided at the last moment to go to New Hope, PA, which is more than a two hour drive. And we're getting a really late start. That Nod. Anyway, here is this weekend's old photo:
This is one of my MIL's friends. Don't remember the name, and I really don't care at the moment. We've got to hit the road. Don't know what we'll find; New Hope sits on the Delaware River, which flooded recently. If it's not workable, then we'll go to the James A. Michener Museum in Doylestown.
see ya later!
To Mexico
Yesterday I helped get the group to the hotel in Baltimore for their very early morning flight this morning to Mexico. I took the luggage, Council hired a limo to take the bodies. Pretty cool limo, eh?
Nod found a way to watch the flight in progress. This image updates automatically, so it can be followed all the way to its destination. I have to go in to work, I bet Nod watches it alot while I'm gone.
Nod just came in and said that there is violence right now in Mexico City (where they will be by 12:13 pm, TLP or EST) because of the presidential elections. I don't know if the Mexico City Airport is sitting outside of the city, I hope it is. Our Cabana is about 45 minutes away. A bus from there will meet our group and another group (I think Canadian Girl Guides) to take them directly to Our Cabana, where they'll be for this whole week.
Then they'll spend the next week they'll be in Mexico City at Ticalli, the Girl Guide Hostel.
Old Photo Weekend & Rabbit Rabbit
The River is receding, we've been given the go-ahead to use the public water. The Civil War reenactments has been postponed for a week, so Gettysburg will be quiet for the 4th of July week for a change. Harrisburg's American Music Fest will be delayed two days, but the Beach Boys will still be here.
And now it's time for another old photo. This one is of Nod's grandparents on the beach in the NYC area (I think, I lose track).
And in keeping with our old beach theme, here is this month's Rabbit Rabbit ~
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
